Should sexual education be thought and learned about
in schools? I personally believe it should, many of you out there might think
its not important or no one cares; but they should. Learning about sexual
things such as sexual reproduction and sexual intercourse should be important
because of these following reasons.
Teaching
students about sexual things can prevent teens from becoming a teen parent. It
can prevent them because sexual education will teach them what the consequences
are. It can offer students free condoms; it will teach boys how to put a condom
on a proper way, not to use it if it’s already open when bought and will also teach
girls about birth control. It’s good for the students to learn about condoms,
and birth control because they will be aware and ready whenever the time comes
for them. Also students will learn what happens if the condom rips or if the
birth control fails what to do to prevent bigger problems. Some of the Sex Ed classes
also talk about staying abstinent (not have sex, maybe until marriage) For some
students this can be a better method because they have a less chance of getting
pregnant at a young age or getting a disease.
Having
a sexual Ed class will also teach the students about transmitted disease.
Transmitted disease is infections that can be transferred from one person to
another by sexual contact. Transmitted disease can ruin your life and make you
miserable which is good to learn about them. A Sex Ed can definitely cover
that; a student is less likely to learn about them when they have it. When
teaching students about disease it can reduce the chance of having sex because
they are scared someone can transfer a disease to them.
Most of the time its parents who don’t agree that
there kids should learn about Sex in school because it doesn’t fit there family
religion or because teaching them will want to make there kids have sex. But I see it differently its really
important for young students to learn about sex. Most of the time kids are to
embarrassed to ask their parents about sex. That is why students don’t learn
about control and a sex Ed in school is more likely to teach them about that.
Sex Ed should be thought because when having sexual contact the students will
already known that using a condom is important and how to put it on. The girl
will also be ready because she’s on birth control, which she learned about in
her Sex Ed class. I believe that having a Sex Ed class will reduce the teen
pregnancy. As of today younger students are starting to have sex and that is
why schools should have Sex Ed classes to teach them about control for both
girls and boys, transmitted diseases and staying abstinent.
In conclusion Sex Ed is important because it will
reduce the chances of a teen to get pregnant or a disease. Parents should not
say no to the class but if they believe it didn’t teach there kids enough they
should go over what they learn or tell them more about sex.

Teen Pregnancy
The rate of
teen pregnancy in the United States is a serious concern more than 900,000
teenage pregnancies occur each year (Teen Pregnancy). Four in ten American
girls will become pregnant at least once being a teen. Teen pregnancy is one of
the most critical issues facing America today. The United States now has the
highest teen pregnancy rate in the western world. The rate has pumped up by one
third since the early 1990’s (Seventeen). The high rate of teenagers having
babies is a national health and social problem that demands attention. Teen
pregnancy in the United States has in fact been across all racial and ethnic
groups, but the greatest decrease has been among African American teens who in
the past have had the highest birth rate. Recently the highest birth rates have
been occurred among Hispanic teens. When you become a teen and pregnant you
just don’t bring the impact on to yourself, but on to your children, and to the
American public in general. Over the recent history of teen pregnancies the
rate has gone up and teen moms have caused different types of problems, Teen
moms are less likely to finish high school, less likely to get married and more
likely to go on welfare than peers. Teens have to realize that by having a
baby, it decrease their chances of a good future ahead of them.
Is it wrong
for a baby to have a baby of their own? If so, what’s the deal many teens
mostly around the United States are having babies now and not later in their
future? Many teens are having sex, unprotected, and it’s causing more than just
one problem at a time. Sex won’t make him yours, and a baby won’t make him stay
either (Seventeen). Not ready to be mothers? It is simple, use protection every
time or stay abstinent (Seventeen).
One main
reason that is causing teens to become pregnant is obviously because they
aren’t being protected and are having sex. One of the reasons for them to not
using
protectionis
because the programs at school that are being taught to student’s, parents are
against them. Parents sued claiming that programs at school violet their right
to family privacy, the right to control the rearing of their children. They
just don’t want their kids to have the access to birth control. Teens want
access to birth control with out having to get permission from their parents
(Tracy Truly.). In some other schools, students were allowed to get sex
education if they wanted to, they weren’t forced and if parents didn’t want
them to they didn’t have to (Tracy Truly). Is it parents fault their teens are
having unprotected sex? It’s good to have someone you can talk about sex and
the protection needed to use, talk to your parents they’ve been young too and
should understand.
Saying that
wont happen to me is stupid. If you don’t protect yourself it probably
will. Sex is serious make a plan.”
(Seventeen)While having
sex, it is likely that the condom comes off, make sure your partner has the
condom put on properly. It’s both your partners and your responsibility to be
careful! If the condom comes off and some sperm escapes into the vagina it can
be a result of pregnancy. A girl should know that it’s most likely to get
pregnant about half way between periods while theirs no condom in between
(Seventeen). Prior to the use of birth control women used to use a form of what
they believe to help called rhythem. They would obstain from having sex half
way between periods. This form of birth control does not work women can get
pregnant at anytime during their menstrual cycle. Before having sex it’s better
to know the consequences than to know them when you have them in front of you.
Don’t have a baby when your still one, a teenager should at least know
better about controlling themselves and being protected. Obviously if not using
protection it’s more likely to end up with a baby if you are careful and take
responsibility its less likely to.Children now days are starting to have sex at much earlier ages than in
the past. I think this is happening because children want to experience what is
it like and because they think they are old enough to handle the situation.
Teen pregnancy has many consequences and concerns not just to the
pregnant girl but to the others around her. I myself faced consequences that I
never thought I would have to. I transferred to a school where I can actually
and will finish with my baby. Some other concerns were disappointing my parents
and moving into another home, something I didn’t imagine experiencing so
quickly. It was hard to get use to, many things changed my parents gave me
everything I wanted and asked for but its not like that anymore. Many things change when becoming a parent.
You have to be mature about the situation and the things you do. You have to
take responsibility for many things like money, food, health, actions, having
enough time to do things, and taking care of that baby. When I found out I was
pregnant one of the things I thought about was money, how will be deal with it.
Diapers, formula, and clothes. We just had to be smart about the situation,
start saving and get a job. Money is needed a lot from the beginning of
pregnancy. First of all you have to pay for prenatal care and your prenatal
vitamins. Prenatal care cost a lot of money but it is important you get it so
you know your baby is good and healthy. Medicaid or insurance pays many times
the prenatal care or at least you have to get a certain amount of money. There are many times when teens
struggle with getting this type of care first, because they don’t think its as
important to get it, second they can’t afford it, and because usually they are
uncomfortable with the older women who are pregnant. I found out I was pregnant
at my sixth month and that is when I started getting prenatal care, it was
wrong for me to have gone so far until I got that care because what if there
was something wrong with my baby and I didn’t get the care provided. But
thankfully my baby was good and healthy.
Many teens aren't mature enough as some older women
are. Pregnant woman should eata
certain type amount of food to help the gain the enough weight needed during
pregnancy. If you don’t have the right amount or don’t take care of yourself leads
you to not gaining enough weight. Pregnant women should at least gain 25-40
pounds. I myself wasn't gaining the enough amount of weight needed I struggled
and only got to gaining 19 pounds. I didn't know what was right from wrong.
Pregnant women
should know and take responsibility when it comes to drinking and taking drugs
because it can harm the creature growing inside their wound. Some teens that
don’t care and don’t want their baby don't think about that. They drink and
take drugs while wanting to party and have fun. Being a mom takes a lot of
responsibility. That responsibility begins as soon as you know you’re
pregnant.Carrying another life
inside of you is hard because you can’t be doing the things like before. Can’t
be running around, exercising so heady, drinking, taking drugs, lay mouth
down. You have to be careful with
the actions you choose.As the
baby comes into life its hard to deal with changing a diaper, feeding the baby,
bathing the baby while also trying to clean your house, get the food ready, and
trying to study. Mostly when being a teen and still trying to finish school is
hard to keep your mind focused on work while the baby is crying.A mom has to be able to have time for
everything; it might take a while but its good to have time to do everything
needed. When not having the enough time for things is mostly when moms start to
get depressed. The good thing about my baby is that he doesn’t cry at all just
when he gets hungry. He gives me time to do other things necessary or a good
method to do is put the baby to sleep and do what is needed to be done. Some of my
concerns were, will I be able to get through with this? These are some of the
consequences and a concern I have to face for not being careful. It’s better to
use a condom than to end up pregnant. ‘If you think birth control “ruins the
mood,” consider what a pregnancy test does to it’ (Seventeen).
As pointed
out a teenage mom brings consequences to more than just one person. American
tax payers spend $40 billion a year to support families that are started by
teenage moms (Teen Pregnancy). Although the pregnant girl is the one who stands
to suffer, it still involves more than one person at a time to help. A teen mom
can’t handle a job, the boyfriend either dumps her or stays with her, or they
move out from the parent’s home.He works but it’s not enough money to pay rent and for the babies
supplies (Teen Mom). The parents sometimes help, but it brings more bills to
pay and more money that they need to spend. Everybody loses in a situation like
this. It’s hard for a couple to keep up with each other, their always fighting
of who’s responsible and whose turn it is to feed their child. A teenager is
still young and they want to go out and party but they need to realize that
their responsibility is to be home taking care of the baby (Teen Mom).
One big
consequence that brings a teenage mom is that they are less likely to finish
high school. Everything changes when a baby comes into your life, especially
when you’re a teen barely starting to experience life. School gets harder for
the teen mom to finish. Some teens start with morning sickness, which prevents
them from going to school. Nausea and vomiting can be a sign of pregnancy and
the symptoms usually don’t’ begin until around the 6th week of
pregnancy. It can occur at any time of the day, and for some women it seems to
stop around the 12th week of pregnancy.Having nausea and vomiting holds you back from school and
gets you behind in your work especially when you are barely starting your
pregnancy.Other than having
nausea and vomiting teen moms stop going to school because they start to feel
uncomfortable. Other students start to judge and point fingers. Teen moms don’t
like to be around that certain situation. They feel alone and a shame at first.
I saw that it is harder for a teen mom to finish school when they don’t have
enough support. Support can be financial but also emotional. Not having enough
support it is likely the teen has to drop out of school to start working for the
care of the baby and herself.Work
gets in between school. When the mom has financial support she doesn’t have to
worry about money as much and can hopefully finish school. After the baby is
born she can have someone watch the baby while she is at school. But that teen
mom has to have motivation in herself to get what she wants, a diploma. At
times some teenagers decide to go back to school and get at least a GPA, but
it’s hard for them to do both study while having to change a diaper (Teen Mom).
In some schools if a teen becomes pregnant the school can’t prevent her from
finishing. Yampah Mountain High School in Glenwood Springs Colorado, offers a
program for pregnant and parenting teens. “The mission of Yampah Teen Parent
Program is to support member district pregnant & parenting students to
become self-sufficient, involved citizens in their communities while working
towards their high school diploma. In a safe and caring community of their
peers, pregnant and parenting teens are provided with education in the best
practices of parenting education.” Once a teen becomes pregnant about only one
third get a high school diploma (Babies Having Babies). Not being able to
finish high school and get a diploma brings them lower chances to get a well
paid job. Not getting paid well causes a teen mom to fall into poverty.
Sometimes teen mothers live in disadvantages situations; they sink into poverty
as before giving birth. (Teen Pregnancy). Being a teenager you have lots of
responsibility but being a mom imagine that. Its not easy being a teenage mom
but having sex unprotected you have to face the consequences and that’s one
consequence. It’s just plain harder to focus on your dreams for the future when
you have a baby at home to focus on (Seventeen).
It’s
definitely not wrong to have a baby but many things do get harder. If you put
yourself to it and have the time for things you will be able to continue on
with your dreams. Just because you have a baby doesn’t mean life is over. It
will take you more time to accomplish what you want in life but doesn’t mean
you can’t do it.
A teen that
ends up pregnant faces many consequences that sometimes they don’t know how to
deal with. But that’s why before having sex make sure you are being protected
and you are sure of what happens you can deal with it. Make it simpler for
yourself and others. Finish school and you will go far, have a baby when you’re
ready, not when you’re barely starting to experience the world.
I wish I
would have been more careful. I’m still a teen who was barely starting to
experience the world. School was my only priority. I don’t regret my baby, but
I wish I could have waited longer. Today I have to face the reality that
everything will be different. I can’t go to my mom or dad every time I need
money or I want something from the store. Instead I have to provide for my baby
and myself. I’m thankful that at least I have my partners support and I don’t
have to worry much. I won’t be able to have what ever I want whenever I want
it. But that is one step of growing up and becoming a parent. My priorities
today are my baby and graduating high school, which I will be doing next year.
Finishing school is a major goal my parents and I have set for myself. I know
that having a diploma will give me advantages for having a better paying job. I
plan to get through high school by attending Yampah Teen Parent Program High
School.It’s a great program that
helps pregnant and parenting teens get through school with their baby. Students
don’t have to struggle looking for some way to take care of their baby the
program daycare and staff to take care of the children while the parents get
their education.
The teen
years is when most people start to experience sex. It’s also the age that they
need to take responsibility before having sex. Both people need to take
responsibility it is not just up to the woman. Theirs nothing that will stop
teens from having sex, but there is more than one way to prevent the pregnancy.
One possible solution is using a condom. A condom is more common, but it is
also risky. A condom can tear. There are several different types of birth
control woman can choose from. These different types of birth control, if taken
correctly prevent pregnancy from occurring . Another way form help prevent
pregnancy before it’s to late is plan B.Plan B is used taken after the sexual intercourse if there was no
protection in between or if condom ripped. Plan B is a pill that should not be
used as birth control it is designed for emergencies only this enables the
sperm to reach the ovary and pregnancy could occur. Plan B must be used within
the 72 hours of the sexual intercourse, the faster you get access to the pill
the faster it will help you to kill the sperm inside of you. You can get the
pill over the counter at pharmacies and at parent hood if 14 or older.
Other
possible solutions to prevent teen pregnancies are to be informed about the
risks. Sometimes teens end up pregnant when they are drunk or high. If being
high or drunk and you can still make a decision about it do it. Don’t do
something you won’t remember and regret (Seventeen). If high or drunk a teen
doesn’t know what’s going on and others take advantage of you. A better way to
not have this happen is to not get high or drunk. If sober ‘saying “no, not yet”
is good, protect your feelings.’ (Seventeen)Always protect yourself and especially if you’re a teen your
just not ready for a kid yet. Carrying a condom is just being smart doesn’t
mean you’re pushy or easy (Seventeen).
It’s hard to decide weather or not
to have. Many different people agree that getting sex education is what makes a
teen have sex. But it also shows them how to be protected. The possible
solution is that getting sex education and learning about birth control and
STD’s before you make the decision of having sex can greatly reduce your
chances of getting pregnant. Get educated!
Sex
education can help a lot, carrying a condom or using a form of birth control
can to. Make the decision about what you want before it’s too late for
anything. Saying no might not be as easy but having a baby isn’t either. By
saying no it will decrease your chances to end up pregnant and increase your
chances to have a better future.
Recently
history the rate of teen pregnancies has gone up. Teen pregnancies cause many
different types of problems. Teen moms are less likely to finish high school,
less likely to get married, and more likely to go on welfare than their peers.
Teens have to realize that by having a baby they decrease their chances of a
good future ahead of them.The
United States by far has the highest rate of teen pregnancy. Parents’ not
allowing their children to have access of birth control is a cause of teens
ending up pregnant. But teens also should know that there are many types of
birth control to use. They should also know when it is the right time to have
sexual contact. Not thinking about it causes the teen, and the family,
consequences that they aren’t ready to face. Carry a condom it’s a solution if
you are sexually active. Use other sources of birth control and know when to
say no. “Teenagers are getting the message that starting families while still
young themselves is a situation where everyone looses” (quote Sarah Brown). I
encourage all the teens out there to be real careful when it comes to sex. A
baby brings lots of happiness into your life it’s a joy being a parent but it
also holds you back from many things. You have another responsibility in your life and it comes first. The partying
and hanging with friends has to be put back for a while.

Question #5: When Daud is in the small jail near Aswan, Egypt, with the old jailer and he finds the Egyptian hundred pound note in the pocket he had forgotten existed, he says that the note “was so folded and faded that I think it was waiting for me for a long time in that pocket in the way that many things are waiting for us to receive them.” What does Daud mean by this? Can you describe how this could apply to your own life?
What I think Daud means by what he said is that life is a mystery and it’s waiting to be discovered. There are times in everyone’s life that we aren’t mature enough to handle what we have in front of us. Things wait for us so that we can understand them or to be ready for them. Everyone in life has there own hidden joules that wait to be discovered by that person. Life is a mystery and wants us to be aware of things. For example we all have paths set up for us that we walk through. And in that path we bump into good or bad things but those things just come to us as a shock, and there are times that we aren’t in the right place to receive those things or to handle them. But those things are made for us and we have to be able to understand them because we aren’t mature enough or just not able to handle them. What Daud says can defiantly apply to my own life, when I was pregnant. When I found out I was pregnant it came to me as a shock, something I wasn’t ready for wasn’t mature for either. But I had to understand to deal with it and know what I was going to do. What Dud says applys to me because my baby was a new discovery to my life. It was a wonderful mystery that waited inside my belly until I discovered it. And it was also awareness, awareness that I had to grow up and let those know I was pregnant before my baby arrived. What Daud says is just all about life being a mystery, having hidden joules in life and as you can see I could relate to what he says.
